Reading The Accounting Educator does not require an account. We record aggregate page views. If your browser permits it, a random identifier stored on this device for up to 90 days helps us measure article starts, approximate reading depth, audio use, saves, shares, related-article clicks, newsletter signup attempts and return visits by section. These events are not linked to your reader account, email address or IP address. We remove event records after 90 days. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals disable these journey events. Reading depth is an estimate, and a signup attempt is not a confirmed newsletter subscription.

When you subscribe to the fortnightly digest, your email address goes directly from the signup form to Buttondown, which manages confirmation, delivery and unsubscribe requests. Newsletter signup is separate from a reader account. Each email includes an unsubscribe link.

If you choose to create a free reader account, we use your email address to provide sign-in links and a personal saved-article list. You can add a display name in your account. We store the articles you save so the list follows you across devices. Sign-in emails are sent through our email service. Account creation does not subscribe you to a newsletter.

After you sign in, My account checks your newsletter status with Buttondown using your verified email address. You can subscribe or unsubscribe there; Buttondown manages confirmation and delivery. Deleting your reader account does not unsubscribe you from the newsletter.

Your sign-in session uses a secure cookie. You can remove saved articles, change your display name, sign out or delete your account and its saved data from My account. We do not link your account to anonymous reading events or personalise articles.
